Olimje

Olimje was officially recognised as the most beautiful village in Europe. It is a small village in the immediate vicinity of the Terme Olimia spa, with extraordinary cultural wealth, untouched nature, diverse tourist offers and friendly locals. Here, the tradition of herbalism is being preserved by Minorite friars, golf is played, homemade beer is drunk, it is a place where people can sit in front of the stone walls with home-made cold cuts and selected wine, where chocolate is available in large quantities, where deer causally walk hills next to you and where people can admire the stars in the planetarium.

The Minorite Monastery

The Olimje Monastery invites you to learn about the life of Minorites who still live and work here today. Part of the monastery building (former castle building) is the baroque-style Church of Mary, which surprises visitors with its unusual black altar. In the domed room on the ground floor, one cannot miss the monastery’s pharmacy, which is considered the third oldest in Europe. The herbs from the herb garden and knowledge related to it, was brought together and to life by hard-working Minorites, which today sell various herbal preparations and teas in the dispenser.

The Deer Ridge

At the Jelenov greben (Deer ridge) homestead, which is located only a few dozen yards above the Olimje monastery with its famous third oldest pharmacy in Europe, a varied tourist offer has been available for many years.

On eight-hectares of surface, a herd of animals greets you upon arrival through the gate of the Deer Ridge. There are around 100 deer, does and mighty moufflons in the herd today.

Individual viewings of deer are possible every day during working hours of the Deer Ridge resort.

The Deer Ridge homestead is known for its excellent cuisine, where culinary delights with venison and mushrooms are most famous local delicacies. Along with excellent food, they also offer a wide selection of wines from top Slovenian winemakers.
